I LOVE the grapefruit cutter. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it works.
As others have written you do want to put the grapefruit on really hard so the
white dome starts to poke through the grapefruit. It is quite a time saver and
well worth the price.

This is by far the easiest tool for grapefruits I have ever laid a hand on. There is not one bit of fruit wasted and I find it impossible to believe there is someone out there capable of ruining a grapefruit with this. I love grapefruits and would always buy them pre-cut because I wasted so much making an attempt to cut one properly, until I found this. I recommend this to any and everyone who loves a grapefruit!

First off let me get this out of the way: Yes it works. It works well.

However, in order for it to work well you have to have the right sized grapefruit. And by that I mean rather on the small side. A greatfruit that is even very slightly on the larger side will only get mangled by this thing. I found the corer to be too small for most of the fruits I bought at the store, so I started carrying the orange cover with me to the market so that I could get grapefruits that would fit properly. Any that didn't tightly fit in the orange cover I wouldn't buy no matter how good they looked. If you get a right sized fruit it works like a dream. If you don't you'll just end up with a big mess to clean up and no grapefruit because it will be mangled. You're probably better off spending each morning learning how to use a knife to quickly core and then cut the outside of the fruit-(same as this device does) so that the fruit falls out onto a plate. It will probably take you 2 weeks to get the hang of that, but at least you can adjust the cutting for any sized grapefruit AND you'll actually develop a skill that you can use. Not like with this thing which is completely unadjustable in size.

Still want this cutter? Then here's some advice- aside from getting the right sized fruit, just know that you will likely destroy your first 2 or 3 grapefruit halves trying to get the hang of this thing. The instructions that come with it are not very good so it will take some trial and error. I found that for it to work I had to press the cover (which is over the fruit) down as far as it would go, turn it all the way and then turn it a bit the other way to dislodge any hanging fruit pieces. Also it takes some strength to turn the fruit so I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with joint issues. In fact I have to wear a tool glove with grip on it just to turn this thing because you need a good grip. If you're not good with a knife it may make your fruit pieces cleaner, but with some fruits it definitely takes more muscle than just using a knife. If you get ANY juice on your hand turning it will be even harder because it will be slippery. I'm a girl with smaller hands so a man's experience may be different.
